Oct. 20 - Deadline to Submit Art Pieces to our Upcoming Art Show!

Call for Artists

The Victoria Faulkner Women’s Centre and Les EssentiElles are preparing an art exhibit for the 16 Days to End Gender-Based Violence campaign. The exhibit will take place at the Edge Gallery at Arts Underground during the month of November 2024.

The theme for this show is: Gender Justice: Art as a Call to Action

We invite artists to explore gender justice and what it means to them.

  • Perhaps you stand in solidarity with those groups experiencing the highest levels of gender-based violence?
  • In the face of inequity, what are your calls to action? How does your community stand up for gender justice? What can gender justice look like?

Who can submit:

  • All those who identify as women, trans, agender or non-binary may apply.

  • Professional, emerging, and amateur artists can all apply. No professional experience necessary, this is a showcase of community voices.

  • Artist from any Yukon community can submit and we encourage submission from outside of Whitehorse.

  • As in last year’s campaign our goal is to promote a intersectional feminist view, so we will prioritize pieces from artists who identify as Indigenous, BIPOC, and 2SLGTBQIA+, youth, and differently abled and or neuro-divergent.

Selection Criteria:

  • We are looking for 10 submissions, depending on size and display needs.

  • There is room for several artist in the show so we are hoping to accommodate as many folks as we can. We will be reviewing each application for a clear link to the theme, and working to ensure that we have a broad diversity of artists and art for the show. Selection will also depend on the size of each piece and how many we can fit in the space.

  • You can submit a piece that already exists in your collection, or an idea for a piece you can complete before the show opening (submission deadline is Oct. 20-we know it’s a short timeline).

  • All mediums can apply – painting, sculpture, mixed media, digital media, pottery, textiles etc.

Compensation:

  • A $200 honorarium for all artists who are selected to display their piece.
  • Payment will be made once the show has opened, and pieces have been received.
  • Payment will be done by cash or e-transfer to electronic banking.
  • Artists can also choose to list their piece for sale while on display at Arts Underground during the month of the exhibit.
