Repairs Needed on the Women’s Centre Building

Located at, 503 Hanson St. in Whitehorse, our building is in need of some exterior repairs to ensure accessibility to all our community members.

Did you know?

• The Women’s Centre has been around for almost 50 years, operating at our current location since 1997!
• 5, 000 women, gender diverse folks and children come through our doors each year.

Scope of Repairs Needed

• Demoloish + repair entire front deck & wheelchair ramp.
• Demolish and Replace (2) side awning structures.
• Demolish and replace back awning structure.
• Repair concrete stairs (basement access).
• Replace exterior cement (sidewalk) on east, south and west side of building. Ensure new surface is smooth, graded for proper drainage and wheelchair accessible.
• Repaint exterior siding.

*Scope should include demolition, garbage removal, management of subcontractors for electrical if/ as required, purchase of materials, building and finishing of all project elements (including painting/ staining etc).

Requirements

• All new structures must meet City of Whitehorse Code and Yukon Government code.
• Sustainability and environmentally friendly recommendations are sought.
• Ramp and side awning solutions must meet or exceed City of Whitehorse Accessibility Code
• Work with VFWC to consider and implement where possible recommendations from accessibility advisory committee.

Timeline & Budget

• Work must be complete March 2026
• Maximum Budget for Total Project: $100,000 (inclusive of GST and all project costs and fees described above)
