Oct. 20 is the Deadline to Submit Art Pieces to our Upcoming Art Show!
Call for Artists
The VFWC and Les EssentiElles are preparing an art exhibit for the 16 Days to End Gender Based Violence Campaign. The exhibit will take place at the Edgle Gallery at Arts Underground during the month of November 2023.
The theme for this show is: The Power of Small Acts of Resistance - Ending Gender Based Violence.
We invite artists to explore the word resistance and what it can mean.
- Perhaps rest, joy and community are resistance, perhaps protest, conversation, and art making are resistance?
- In the face of violence, how do you resist? How does your community resist? What can resistance look like?
Who can submit:
-
All those who identify as women, trans, agender or non-binary may apply. In this year’s campaign our goal is to promote an even more intersectional feminist view, so we will prioritize pieces from artists
who identify as Indigenous, BIPOC, and 2SLGTBQIA+, youth, and differently abled and or neuro-divergent. -
Professional, emerging, and amateur artists can all apply. No professional experience necessary, this is a showcase of community voices.
- Artist from any Yukon community can submit and we encourage submission from outside of Whitehorse.
Selection Criteria:
-
We are looking for 10 submissions, depending on size and display needs.
-
There is room for several artist in the show so we are hoping to accommodate as many folks as we can. We will be reviewing each application for a clear link to the theme, and working to ensure that we have a broad diversity of artists and art for the show. Selection will also depend on the size of each piece and how many we can fit in the space.
-
You can submit a piece that already exists in your collection, or an idea for a piece you can complete before the show opening (we know it’s a short timeline).
- All mediums can apply – painting, sculpture, mixed media, digital media, pottery, textiles etc.
Compensation:
- A $150 honorarium for all artists who are selected to display their piece.
- Payment will be made once the show has opened, and pieces have been received.
- Payment will be done by cash or etransfer to electronic banking.
